Towards the end of last year the Blood Pressure Info blog covered the announcement that on the back of faster internet connections it was now possible to store health records online at Microsoft's HealthVault and Google Health. There followed a flurry of activity from medical supply manufacturers to adapt their equipment and products to easily link in to these online medical files and data storage and Omron have recently announced that they hope to form a strategic relationship to support Microsoft Healthvault by making a pedometer and blood pressure monitors compatible to share information with the platform.
In June Omron Healthcare announced it had developed two blood pressure measuring devices - one a wrist blood pressure monitor, the other an upper arm monitor which will enable users to accurately measure their blood pressure and integrate important blood pressure data with other wellness information for better health management.
Assuming the users perform a speedtest to check their internet connection demonstrates adequate file transfer rates individuals can access and manage their health information through a free web-based account that enables them to collect and store information, as well as backup files and share this information with family members and physicians.
We watch this space to see if the new smart pants that can take blood pressure readings will also become compatible with online health file storage.
